Welcome to our wonderful world of Boer goats!  We are THE BOERS NEST, also known as William and Ellen Adkinson, from  Lizella, Ga. (located in Crawford county). Macon is about 12 miles east of us, so we are almost centrally located in the state. Perhaps being interested in goats, you may be aware that Macon is where Chess McCartney, also known as "The Goat Man", eventually ended up living after his years of pulling a goat drawn cart around much of the United States.  We never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. McCartney, but it never fails that people in the area (and out of the area!), see us with our goats and tell us how much pleasure Mr. Chess and his goats brought them.  It is ironic that goats bringing pleasure is pretty much how we ended up being goat herders.  When we bought and cleared our 4 acres for our home, goats seemed a great way to keep the area clean.  So we bought a few common goats and our obsession began.  Ellen had goats while growing up, but not, as she says, "the kind that have to have their nails polished."  Just good strong goats who were self sufficient and rugged.  Eventually we were introduced to percentage Boers and glimpsed into full blood Boers, at the time, noting that no way would we ever pay that much for a goat, EVER.  As our herd grew, we leaned more and more towards having a full blood herd since we knew full blood seemed to be the future of Boer goats.  Around this time, William had to retire from work and basically quit everything he enjoyed - fishing, hunting, anything fun.  As our percentages were sold off and we began our full blood stock, William would spend almost every waking moment with our goats.  There were not a lot of people with caprine expertise in our area or much of anywhere else for that matter, so William learned all he could about goats from anyone who seemed to know anything.  The first time we went to a goat show was in Perry, Ga and at the very second a goat walked by William in the ring, he found his niche in the goat world.  There were probably not even ten people showing at that first show, but William had to be a part of it.  So now he travels as far and as often as his health and our budget will allow, going to every goat show in our area. We are members of the USBGA, ABGA, and the INTL BGA, all of which are Boer goat organizations that encourage the production of quality Boer goats and encourage youth in many areas to participate, especially 4-H and FFA.

As  you can see, Boer goats are our life, especially for William.  We have learned a lot from our friends on their farms, people at shows and we've  learned even more from the youth who help William out at shows.  They sparkle with enthusiasm and their eagerness to learn.  We appreciate them more than they will ever know. Naming them all would be virtually impossible and inevitably we would leave someone's name off which would make us feel terrible.  Please know that we appreciate and thank everyone of you from the bottom of our boots to the top of our hearts.  We would never have made it through the shows without you.

Our goal in the Boer Goat industry is to raise healthy goats and we strive to improve the production of better quality show and meat goats.  We have been blessed in the goat industry with three does off of a buck named Hillbilly.  These three does (May-may, Calista and Sophie) and their offsprings have produced hundreds of Champions, including the 2004 International Over All National Grand Champion % Doe.  We also lucked up on an EGGSFILE daughter (Eggslinny) who is one of his best.  Our breeding program is based on these four does and their offsprings bred to Ennobled Bucks like: Eggspand,  EWA Tuggy,  EWA Tank, Eggsrayman,  Pal Cloud, and Tripled Ennobled Hidden Hollow Profile.  We have been very pleased and satisfied with our program.  We always welcome visitors, whether they are buyers or browsers!
